Catching Fire

Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Suzanne Collins created the same suspense in this one that she did in Hunger Games. Readers will be clamoring for the next one in the series. The book is a little above the interests of the average 7th grader, however.

Schooled

Schooled Schooled by Gordon Korman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'm not sure if I liked this book because there were so many references to the 70's or because it had such a good message. Either way, I really did like this book. Capricorn Anderson, the main character, is being raised by Rain, his grandmother on what is left of a 70's commune. When his grandmother falls and is hospitalized, Capricorn is taken in by a social worker who sends him to middle school. For someone who has never experienced school, this turns out to be quite an experience. He becomes the butt of jokes and pranks, but eventually elevates the entire school. The story is told from various viewpoints, which makes it accessible to girls and boys. Reminded me of Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl.
